Move forward without starting over
Recovery is about more than maintaining sobriety. It is about building the stability, confidence, and independence needed for a successful future. Our Private Rental Program helps qualified residents move from structured sober living into private, long-term rental housing.
For people with limited credit, a criminal record, or gaps in rental history, finding affordable housing can be one of the greatest barriers to moving forward. Rising Sun helps reduce those barriers by considering the positive history residents build while in our program — sobriety, employment, reliable housing payments, responsible property care, and compliance with program expectations.
Residents who progress through the structured phase of our program should not have to lose the stability and relationships they have established. Next-Step Housing creates a smoother transition through Rising Sun-owned rentals and an expanding network of felon-friendly housing partners.
How the transition works
- 01
Build a record in structured housing
Sobriety, employment, on-time housing payments, responsible property care, and compliance with program expectations all count toward your housing readiness.
- 02
Talk with your house manager
Current residents start the conversation with their house manager or the main office to learn about eligibility, available properties, and the private-rental waiting list.
- 03
Individual review
Every applicant is reviewed individually based on housing readiness, rental availability, and applicable property requirements. Placement is never guaranteed.
- 04
Lease and move in
Qualified residents sign a lease and take on a private, long-term rental with more independence and more day-to-day responsibility.
- 05
Stay connected
If a resident later recognizes that additional support is needed, Rising Sun's housing continuum may allow a return to a more structured sober living environment.

More freedom, more responsibility
Unlike structured sober living, private rentals put the household in the tenant's hands.
- Manage your own household
- Remain current on rent
- Care for the property
- Follow the terms of your lease
- Respect the drug- and alcohol-free property requirements
- Continue building a stable and productive life
Who is eligible?
Priority is given to current Rising Sun residents and successful program participants who are ready to transition into independent housing. Each applicant is reviewed individually based on housing readiness, rental availability, and applicable property requirements. Meeting these qualifications does not guarantee approval or placement.
Felon-friendly opportunities
Many of our housing opportunities are felon-friendly. A person's past does not automatically define their future. We focus on the stability, responsibility, and progress a person is demonstrating today — subject to individual review and applicable property requirements.
More than an apartment
Stable housing creates the foundation for everything that comes next. It gives residents the opportunity to stay employed, rebuild family relationships, meet financial obligations, save money, establish a positive rental history, and work toward long-term goals.
Some residents eventually reunite with family, move into other market-rate housing, or pursue homeownership. Others stay in a Rising Sun private rental because of the stability, affordability, and substance-free environment it provides.
The goal is not simply to provide another place to live. The goal is to help people move from structured recovery housing into lasting independence while staying connected to a safe, drug- and alcohol-free community.
